A size chart tells you chest and waist measurements. It doesn't tell you what to do if you're 5'2" or 5'9", and length is often the part of a fit that actually determines whether trousers look tailored or just wrong.
Why Height Matters More Than Most Size Charts Admit
Most brands, ours included, size pants by waist measurement, not height — which means the length is built around an average. If you're notably shorter or taller than that average, the fit at the waist can be correct while the length is off, and it's the length that's most visible in how a pair of trousers actually looks.
If You're on the Shorter Side
Hemming is your friend, not a failure — a good tailor can hem flare or straight-leg trousers in a way that preserves the silhouette, and this is genuinely standard practice, not something to be embarrassed about.
Watch the rise — a higher rise generally elongates the leg line more than a low or mid rise, which matters more for shorter frames than the actual leg length does.
Avoid wide cuffs on flares if you're petite — an exaggerated flare can overwhelm a shorter frame. A subtler flare, like the one on our Light Indigo Denim Flare Pants, tends to work better than a dramatic bell-bottom silhouette.
If You're on the Taller Side
Check the inseam before assuming a size runs long enough — most standard-length trousers are cut for an average height, so genuinely tall frames may find even a "regular" length lands slightly short.
Flares and wide-leg cuts tend to favour height — the added length below the knee generally reads well on a taller frame in a way it can occasionally overwhelm a shorter one.
Cropped styles need extra attention — a cropped trouser cut for an average height can land higher on the ankle than intended for a taller frame, so check the specific length noted in the product description.
Regardless of Height
Always check waist and hip measurements against your own before length — length can be altered by a tailor for a small cost; waist and hip fit generally can't be, without compromising the garment's structure.
